CMPA announces 2011 research grant recipients

Recognizing the importance of research in advancing safer medicine, the CMPA announced the recipients of its 2011 research grants. The CMPA awarded more than $120,000 in research grants, focused on collaborative research and risk management program development, to 3 grant recipients.

Collaborative research

Dr. Francois Auclair, Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, Explanation to patients: A survey and construction of a model — $23,255

Dr. Lisa Calder, Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, The efficacy of phone follow-up in reducing adverse events in the emergency department, a pilot project — $49,765

Risk management program development

Dr. Penny Tam, University of British Columbia, Quality improvement in handover of general internal medicine in-patients — $47,970

The CMPA is committed to improving the safety of medical care in Canada. It supports this commitment through its ongoing risk management education and research efforts and through its research grants program. The CMPA grant program has awarded over $1 million in research funding since its inception in 2005.
