Candidate statement

It would be an honor to be a CMPA Council Member and I seek your support to elect me. CMPA has the important task of promoting excellent and safe medical care while reducing Physician and Resident’s medical legal risk. I am passionate about Physician health and wellness and providing the best care for patients while managing the risks inherent in medical practice. I am confident with my experience as a physician leader, I can contribute to the governance of this organization committed to empowering better health care.

I am an experienced community Family Physician practicing in Ottawa, Ontario for 30 years, a Mother of 3 sons with a lovely daughter in law and adorable granddaughter and a friend to many of you. I have a daily wellness routine, including exercise, mindfulness and healthy eating. Mentorship by Canadian Physician leaders and formal leadership training has given me the skills to be an effective CMPA Councillor. For 20+ years I have been a proud member of the University of Ottawa, Physician and Resident Wellness program (Code 99 program).

Let me now tell you about my leadership experience. Over the past 4 years, I have been on the Board of the Federation of Medical Women of Canada (FMWC), in several roles including being the 93rd National President, 2017-18. I have demonstrated my ability to be productive as I worked to create 3 new advocacy areas in my year as President. These are: Women, Peace and Security, Women’s Cardiology and Chairing our new Gender Equity and Diversity Committee. My role as Chair of Finance (FMWC), has prepared me to undertake the financial role of councillors. I have been Co-Physician Lead with the 2018-2019 CMA President on a Comprehensive Review ( Jan 2019): Addressing Gender Equity and Diversity in Canada’s Medical Profession. Our work continues as we consult physicians for input on solutions. I will bring this expertise to the CMPA’s focus in this direction. I have also gained valuable leadership experience in Ontario provincial politics as a Board Member and now as first Vice President of my local Ottawa, Electoral District Association, (EDA).

I would be honoured to join the CMPA council. I will bring: Engagement. Collaboration. Positive Energy. Focus on Wellness. Thoughtful Leadership. Political Experience. National Leadership Experience. A Strong Voice for all Ontario Physicians.

I ask for your vote as a CMPA Councillor (Ontario Division A)
