Candidate statement

2020 is a year of transition for the CMPA and I seek your support to continue as Council Past-President.

I have much to offer our members, the incoming President, the new CEO, Council and the CMPA as a whole. Since joining Council in 2008 and as President in 2018-20, I have maintained a focus on the culture both of Council & throughout the corporation, and on sound decision making & strategic oversight. I commit to continue to champion diversity, psychological safety, inclusion and equality; all essential for strong corporate governance and improving the environments in which we practice.

As a Peterborough family physician since 1990, I continue to work in my hospital and community. I have a passion for safe care particularly in obstetrics, newborn care and women’s health. In these settings I work alongside physicians from all specialties and other healthcare professionals. I know the key evolving issues in physician wellness and the stresses in the medical legal and regulatory complaints process. I have intimate knowledge of the high risk medical care concerns for the CMPA and other Canadian organizations. I will continue to confirm that the CMPA is a Canadian medical organization that strives to understand our members’ reality and professional challenges and to stay relevant.

As an experienced Councillor, I have the curiousity and courage to ask hard questions of our CMPA management as we all work together to serve you, our members. With a focus on protecting your professional integrity, we will clearly communicate:
*our physician to physician advice
*our extent of assistance model
*our educational products & services in practice improvement and safe medical care.

I confirm that we will probe data with analyses to guide your professional career & wellness. Important work is now underway to transform the business aspects of the CMPA and to enhance our service delivery. It must be completed. With continued oversight, your Council will work with management and staff on sound business and investment practices and organizational stewardship. Our subsidiary, Saegis, will develop innovative ways to support you and positively impact our healthcare system. As we all learn about rapidly evolving digital technologies, we will strive to ensure that emerging tools improve the safety of our medical care, & the quality and the delivery of your CMPA services.

My work on CMPA Council is not yet complete. I appreciate your vote, support & the opportunity to serve.
