It is important for physicians to be involved in organizations that directly affect them and have an impact on their practice and their individual and professional development. The CMPA is, in my opinion, one such association whose role is very important to its members.
During my four years of practice, I have found that many physicians think the CMPA is only there to defend its members in cases of litigation. I believe that its role goes beyond that and I strongly believe in its goal of educating physicians to improve patient care. That is why I would like to be involved in a more practical way to understand the issues at stake and contribute to improving both the quality and safety of medical practice in this country. Raising member awareness at the local level is crucial. In addition, the medical profession is facing rapid and significant changes since the arrival of the pandemic. I would like to contribute to the goals and roles of the Association as a young member. Indeed, residents in Québec are barely aware of the CMPA, as their professional responsibility is being looked after by another organization. I believe that the Association can play a supportive role with new physicians beginning to practice. I would also like to share young physicians’ concerns with the Association. I am proposing to be their spokesperson.
Having completed my training in Ontario and Québec and having a professional network elsewhere in the country, I am cognizant of local issues, but also of those in other provinces and disciplines. I have always been involved in student life through various councils, and continue to be active within my medical team and the Association des obstétriciens et gynécologues du Québec. Locally, I actively participate in departmental meetings and, more specifically, play a leadership role in legal and financial decisions. I also contribute to training activities for students and residents. I work very well within a group through active listening and the contribution of constructive ideas. I am interested in professional business management and medico-legal expertise. My participation as a member of Council will allow me to further hone my skills as a leader, manager and communicator.
