Candidate statement

CMPA provides exceptional service to physicians of Canada and I am honored to be a Councilor. CMPA provides protection to physicians’ integrity and ability to practice medicine in Canada and encourages us to provide safe care to our patients.

What I bring to this role is that I thoroughly enjoy being a Councilor and am enthusiastic to continue in this role. I have a diverse and varied background. I am trained in both medicine and law. I worked as a general practitioner and a specialist. I maintain a busy clinical practice but continue to be involved in teaching, mentoring, clinical research and medical research ethics boards. I have a number of supervisory and administrative roles within my department. I also believe that involvement in sport and community is important. Being a woman, I am a visible minority on Council. Thus I bring gender balance as well as diversity.

CMPA is currently updating the organizations' strategic plan and is administering a governance review. It is important to have experienced councilor’s guide these transitions to make sure member’s needs are met, to ensure compliance with best governance practices and to promote stakeholder engagement in moving the organization forward.

Issues and concerns continue to arise. Government’s financial struggles threaten changes to the management and delivery of health care. Sustainability and financial constraints are prevalent concerns. Government reimbursement programs may be affected. Artificial intelligence may change the face of medicine as we know it today. Electronic medical records are changing how we interact with patients. Less patient contact and impaired communication prevail as we struggle to fit patient care into computers. Rest assured the CMPA continues to be at the forefront of these, and other, issues while promoting and protecting the interests of members.

If elected I will continue to represent and advocate for Alberta’s physicians. I will be part of a team that oversees the governance of the organization and provides oversight of fiscal responsibilities. I support the CMPA in advancing new strategies, in providing expanded programming to meet member’s needs and collaborating with other medical groups to ensure ongoing safe medical care in Canada. The CMPA has phenomenal leadership and with ongoing collaboration of the Council members and the Management team, the organization will continue to provide the physicians of Canada exceptional support.
