Dr. John Gray, the former Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director (2000–2013) of the CMPA, was recently honoured with the PIAA (now the Medical Professional Liability Association) Award of Excellence for Lifetime Achievement. The award recognizes his outstanding contributions to the Association, the international medical professional liability community, and medicine.
During his career, Dr. Gray has dedicated many years to medicine and healthcare. He was a family medicine practitioner in Peterborough, Ontario, and served with a number of medical organizations. In 2015, he was awarded the Canadian Medical Association Medal of Service.
At the CMPA, Dr. Gray was a member of the CMPA Council before becoming CEO. As CEO, he created the Safe Medical Care group to focus on patient safety and risk reduction at the individual and system level.
His attention to patient safety carried on into his work at the PIAA. After serving on the PIAA board of directors and the audit committee, he worked with the PIAA International Section, including as its chair. He revitalized the International Section by promoting the exchange of patient safety information across global borders.
The PIAA award was presented to Dr. Gray at the organization’s medical liability conference in Orlando, Florida, in May 2018.
The MPL Association is an international association representing medical professional liability insurance companies, risk retention groups, captives, trusts, and other entities with a commitment to the quality delivery of healthcare.
The CMPA extends sincere congratulations to Dr. Gray on this remarkable achievement. The Association recognizes that it too benefitted from Dr. Gray’s dedication to medicine, healthcare, and patient safety.
Congratulations from CMPA
