Responding to the crisis in Haiti
The 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti on August 14 has left at least 2,000 dead and more than 12,000 injured. Many people are still missing, and thousands are homeless.
Canadian physicians witnessing the aftermath of the earthquake may want to help. If you are considering travelling to Haiti to offer medical care, please see the CMPA’s principles regarding humanitarian aid.
The CMPA encourages humanitarian work, but it’s important for physicians to confirm their medico-legal protection.
If you are considering travelling to Haiti, contact the CMPA via phone or our secure members’ portal to ensure eligibility for humanitarian work. Contact us in advance of your planned departure date so that we can arrange the appropriate medico-legal protection.
