Dr. Claude Mercier is a pediatric neurosurgeon practising at the Centre hospitalier universitaire (CHU) Sainte-Justine in Montreal, Québec. Upon graduating from the Université de Sherbrooke, Dr. Mercier practised for a year in the Comoro Islands in Africa as a general practioner, followed by a year in a rural community in Québec. Dr. Mercier went on to do his neurosurgical training at the Université de Montréal and a fellowship in France.

Chief of neurosurgery at the CHU Sainte-Justine for over 30 years, Dr. Mercier has served on a number of hospital committees, including as president of the bioethics committee. He became an associate professor in the departments of surgery and neurosciences at the Université de Montréal, where he has been the program director of insurance medicine and medico-legal expertise since 2018.

Dr. Mercier is a member of many international neurosurgical societies, an author of numerous peer-reviewed publications, and has participated in the pediatric training of most neurosurgeons in Québec. His interest in safe medical care led to his involvement in the development of a neurosurgery simulator with the National Research Council of Canada.
