For most of his career, Dr. Michael Sullivan practised anesthesiology and critical care medicine in a community hospital in Newmarket, Ontario. He served as the chief of Anesthesiology, the medical director of the Intensive Care Unit, and the physician lead for Surgery. He recently relocated his practice to Toronto General Hospital where he experiences the joys and challenges of academic practice. Dr. Sullivan also recently worked in critical care medicine in New Zealand for some months, where he plans to return for another stint.
Among various leadership and administrative roles he has held, Dr. Sullivan was the chair of the Specialty Committee in Anesthesiology at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and a regional medical commander at the Ontario Critical Care COVID-19 Command Centre.
