Katy Shufelt

Dr. Katy Shufelt is an interventional cardiologist practising in Peterborough, Ontario. She is an alumnus of University of Ottawa medical school, University of Toronto Internal Medicine and Cardiology residency programs and McMaster University Interventional Cardiology fellowship. She is part of a dedicated team of five interventional cardiologists who provide services to the large geographical area served by Peterborough Regional Health Centre. She has special interests in corporate governance, complex coronary angioplasty, safe medical care, quality improvement, and physician wellness.

Dr. Shufelt supervises residents as an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine at Queen’s University, and is an honorary associate professor in the Department of Biology at Trent University.

She has deepened her knowledge about corporate governance through courses at Harvard and Columbia Business Schools, Harvard Law School, and by completing the Institute of Corporate Directors Certification through the Rotman School of Business.

Dr. Shufelt is proud to have the trust of Ontario physicians in her fourth term as a CMPA Councillor and as the CMPA President. This leadership role allows her to ensure that protecting the integrity of Canadian physicians, promoting safe medical care, and providing exceptional member support remain cornerstones of the CMPA mission. She is equally committed to being a financially strong and prudent steward of members’ resources. She looks forward to guiding CMPA through the implementation of the 2027-29 strategic plan, the response to evolving changes in the medicolegal and geopolitical environment, and significant governance transformation within the organization.
