Dr. Lynette Powell completed her medical education at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador.
She practises family medicine, emergency medicine, and hospital work, and advocates for rural health care access. In 2017 she was awarded the College of Family Physicians of Canada Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter Family Physician of the Year for her clinical and community work.
Dr. Powell served as president and board member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Assocation (NLMA). She is currently co-chair of the provincial Family Practice Renewal Committee, a co-managed initiative between the NLMA and the Department of Health and Community Services, focused on the revitalization of family medicine.
She has served in leadership and preceptor roles in medical education for both local and internationally trained physicians, and was involved in the initial development of a rural family medicine residency stream in central Newfoundland.
Dr. Powell enjoys being a rural physician and is an advocate for the challenges that rural physicians experience.
