Equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI)

CMPA’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI)

The CMPA is an essential component of the Canadian healthcare system. Our mission is to protect the professional integrity of physicians and promote safe medical care in Canada.

Equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) are vital to healthcare. We know members and patients experience racism and inequities and that this significantly affects physicians, threatens patient safety, and creates medico-legal risk.

We have a responsibility to address this risk and help mitigate bias and inequity in the services we provide and in our own workplace. Addressing EDI is directly tied to our mission, and is why we are prioritizing this important work.

Our 2022-2025 EDI Strategy

The CMPA is committed to advancing EDI in the services we provide to members and within our own workplace.

The 2022-2025 EDI Strategy shares our EDI vision, which is to be an organization where members and employees are valued for their diverse experiences and perspectives, and where we provide members with fair and equitable support – helping members provide safe medical care.

To do this, our Strategy focuses on 5 elements:

  • Members
  • Governance
  • Employees
  • Learning
  • Advocacy

The scope of this work, however, requires dedication and focus, so we’re beginning our efforts by concentrating first on the needs of our members, governance, and employees.

Our journey to enhance EDI is a continuous one. As we listen, learn, and grow, we will expand our strategy to encompass learning and advocacy activities, and build thoughtful action plans to support EDI in the services we provide to members and within our own workplace culture.
