The CMPA offices, located in Ottawa, are located on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation, whose presence here reaches back to time immemorial.
We honour and pay our respect to these lands, and to all First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples throughout Turtle Island.
Land acknowledgments are critical reminders to understand the significant relationship between Indigenous Peoples and the land – both in the past, present, and future – and honour that relationship. They are important to understanding the history that has brought every one of us to reside on the land and our place within it – and to recognizing our responsibilities to each other.
The National Truth and Reconciliation Commission (NTRC) included a call to reclaim recognition of Indigenous Peoples and land. The CMPA has a role to play in supporting reconciliation, and we begin this journey by respecting, acknowledging, and remembering the special relationship between Indigenous Peoples and the land across this country.
We understand that this is only one small step, and we strive to continue to learn and grow and support the healing and reconciliation of Indigenous Peoples and non-Indigenous Peoples in Canada. Supporting truth and reconciliation is a key component of our 2022-2025 Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Strategy.
