Learning objectives

After completing this eLearning activity, you will be able to:

  1. Distinguish between requests for access to medical records where legislation mandates or permits access, from requests where patient consent is required to release the records.
  2. Determine who can consent to the release of the medical records on behalf of a minor, incapable or deceased patient.
  3. Identify criteria that can justify withholding certain information contained in the medical records, either from the patient or from a third party.
