Candidate statement

I have fulfilled many roles in my career, including physician, educator, mentor, community leader, and health systems leader. These roles have helped me to recognize the importance of CMPA’s mission to protect the professional integrity of physicians and promote safe medical care across Canada. Throughout my career, I have demonstrated my dedication to improving healthcare access and outcomes, especially in rural and underserved communities. I have long been an advocate for providing safe environments for both patients and physicians.
I would bring to the CMPA Board a strong foundation in governance, strategic leadership, and collaborative problem-solving as well as the perspective of a physician who has spent a career in a rural community.
As Past President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association (NLMA), I was involved in initiatives focused on physician wellness, health system renewal, and physician engagement. These experiences have honed my ability to navigate complex challenges with integrity and purpose.
My work as a Regional Physician Lead with MUN’s Rural Medical Education Network allowed me to mentor future physicians and advocate for sustainable rural healthcare. I understand the evolving scope of practice and medico-legal risks facing physicians today, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the proliferation of virtual care and the ongoing healthcare human resource crisis. I believe that CMPA’s strategic priorities including supporting members, strengthening collaboration, and adapting through modernization, are essential to ensuring physicians are protected and empowered in this shifting landscape.
I support CMPA’s efforts to enhance accessibility and promote equity, diversity, and inclusion. My experiences as a physician, educator, health care leader and parent in an underserviced area have shown me the importance of ensuring we put an equity and diversity lens on all critical decision making.
I would be proud to represent rural physicians and bring a regional perspective to national conversations. I believe in responsible stewardship and service excellence. These values have also guided my career and align with CMPA’s vision of being an essential component of the Canadian healthcare system.
I am honoured to offer my voice, experience, and leadership to the CMPA Board, and I look forward to contributing to its mission of supporting physicians and enhancing patient safety across Canada.
