Candidate statement
For the past sixteen years, I have been working as a family physician in a regional university setting, practising in a variety of clinical environments— emergency, inpatient care, outpatient clinics, intermediate care facilities, and long-term care homes (CHSLDs). This diversity of practice has given me a concrete and nuanced understanding of the day to day realities faced by physicians and care teams, as well as the systemic challenges that affect the quality and safety of care.
My career combines clinical experience, teaching responsibilities, and management roles. As a teacher and mentorship coordinator for residents, I have helped foster a culture of continuous improvement and supported the training of future generations of physicians. The leadership and governance positions I have held in academic settings have involved me in strategic planning, organizational transformation, and change management. These roles have strengthened my collaborative leadership style, grounded in listening, thoroughness, diplomacy, and the search for sustainable solutions.
I view CMPA as a key player in the Canadian health system: an organization that protects physicians—and, by extension, patients—while supporting responsible, high quality medical practice. The issues facing the profession—artificial intelligence integration, climate change, equity and accessibility, burnout, and the increasing complexity of care—require governance that is informed and grounded in reality. My multisector experience enables me to bring an authentic understanding of these challenges and to contribute meaningfully to Council’s strategic thinking.
On a personal level, I am a mother of three and I place lifestyle at the heart of my medical practice, reflecting my commitment to holistic health, prevention, and sustainable development. I am deeply committed to the values of inclusion, diversity, collaboration, and social responsibility. My perspective—shaped by my experience as a woman, a regional practitioner, an academic, and someone deeply committed to prevention—offers a meaningful voice to help enrich the diversity within Council.
I hope to contribute actively to the evolution of CMPA, to put my expertise at the service of its members, and to help ensure strong, transparent, and forward looking governance. For me, this role represents an opportunity to make a constructive and lasting contribution within an organization that is essential to the medical profession.
